Pagerank Update. January 2008

Recently Google update Pagerank for some popular and new websites. It happened suddenly without step by step updates in different databases. Statcounter which lost pr10 during October changes for selling links came back from pr6 to pr9. Popular SEO blog SEOlogs is back to 5 from 4. Some new websites and blogs noticed improvements.
However, most websites are still with the same Pagerank including our TechWeb Media which is still Pagerank 0 (we only 2 month online).

It is regular for Google to make partial / small updates before major updates.

I’ve just seen a PR change in my blog from a 3 to a 2 even though I thought this update would boost it to a 4 with some good incoming links.

We’ll see what was the cause this time as last time paid links seemed to be the big issue.

Google gave Statcounter pr9 again right after StatCounter added “nofollow” to all links they sold.

I can give credence to the fact that the update may apply specifically to new sites.

My blog, which launched in August last year, moved from a 4 to 5. When I noticed the change last week, I couldn’t find anyone talking about it at all. Not even on Sphinn.

Maybe this is just a prequel to the big one?

Most likely it will be another major update. In the beginning of 2007 Google updated only big sites with pr8-10 (new inner pages got pr) and only after 3-4 weeks major updates started.

careerdiagnostics.com is a newly registered domain name (from about Aug 07) and derives current pagerank from the original progressenterprise.com performance. Online tools such as that provided by iwebtalk.com suggest that progressenterprise.com is likely to increase from a 3 to a 5 at the next update, but I am yet to see this happen. Hopefully the “flow on” benefit to careerdiagnostics will continue.
