Microsoft makes $42 billion offer to buy Yahoo!
According to Associated Press, Microsoft offered $42 billion to acquire Yahoo. MSN could not compete with Google to become a leader of paid advertising marketing; Yahoo is the only threat for Google. It is clear that MSN doesn’t really care about other services Yahoo provides because similar services visitors can find on MSN website / portal.
As of December, 2007 MSN share only 9.8% of search engine market, Yahoo gets 22.9%, and Google shares 58.4% of all searchers. If Microsoft buys Yahoo it will automatically give company 32.7% of search engine market.
In 2006 Microsoft was trying to get leadership on search engine market by introducing Live ( Quaero name in the beginning ) search engine.
