Great post Sergey! Of all the startups/websites that use Google Adsense as their main revenue model (according to Bizak.com their earnings per visitor (EPV) is just $0.06. That's not what they earn per click but rather based on the number of visitors they have. In order to make $1,000/month they need over 16,000 monthly visitors - not an easy feat. Better to monetize with services ($1.67 EPV) and/or subscriptions ($1.02 EPV).

Even with these poor earnings 22% of startups/websites rely on Adsense as their main revenue source. 17% services and 8% subscriptions. Source: Bizak.com

1st off quit thinking like a programmer and think like a business owner. Adsense is charging more and paying out less for one simple reason. Google stock prices are dropping and not recovering.
In January when Google stocks started dropping it was common knowledge on the market to get rid of all Google stocks.
Google is trying anything to make money and get their stocks back up. From space travel to "save the planet." Currently they have lost key executives in their company which is a bad sign to Wall Street.
Major companies like "Overstock.com" have stopped all ads with Google back in 2007.

Adsense does still pay the best out there, but keep your eyes open. CPA's are going to change. I think you are seeing the beginning of the end of these types of companies.
