This year there was a lot of bugs in LinkVendor tools and many of them didn’t work. I was disappointed that this amazing resource was gone. Recently I visited LinkVendor again and discovered many changes in design with new tools which could be useful for all webmasters, bloggers, and web developers.

LinkVendor design became more professional in web 2.0 style.

New and old (updated) tools:

SEOmetrie Report -the most amazing SEO tool I ever saw. The Seometrie report conduct a extensive website analysis based on the important search engine key figures and creates from the results a convincing quality index with references to individual optimization steps. Wow!

Cloaking Detector- tool to find if website use “black hat SEO” trick called cloacking. You can detect websites on which the page (content) presented to the crawler is different from that presented to the visitor. You can find competitors who use cloaking and report it to Google.

SEO Challenge- tool to compare how powerful websites from SEO point of view. Tool will show which site is stronger for search engines and will rank better.

Social Bookmark Checker - the social bookmark checker show the number of bookmarks (links) to a website in popular social websites.

Backlink Checker (Domain Popularity)- old tool which was little modified. The best way to find backlinks for your site or site of your competitors.

Multi Pagerank Checker- find your Pagerank in all Google datacenters. It will be hot tool during Pagerank update.

Indexing your backlink.

March 27, 2008 By: Sergey Rusak Category: Blog No Comments →

Approved backlink for your site is not enough. Sometimes Google can’t index page where backlink appeared especially if it is large social site with missions pages, forum, or site which is not powerful enough for search engines.

After your link appeared on web page you should visit it in 3-4 weeks to see if page appear in Google search results. Double check if Google has cached shot of the page and your link is there.

When Google spiders can’t reach page and it never indexed it means that link can’t give extra credit to your site. You can help Google to find it by linking this page from other source. Social bookmarking sites is the best way where you can link this page. Use social sites where members can save links for them self without sharing with community. Magnolia, Furl, Stubleupon, or Simpy is a great way to do it. Sites like Digg or Mixx could ban you for submitting pages without real content unless if you have content link which appeared on weak site which doesn’t have enough power for Google.

Creating links for pages where your link already appeared will increase value of this page and this value will be passed to your link.

10 questions to ask before you hire SEO expert.

March 26, 2008 By: Sergey Rusak Category: Blog 3 Comments →

SEO scams, unprofessional SEO, and SEO malpractice could cost you not only big amount of money but also website failure, drop in rankings, or even removal from search engines.

Hiring SEO expert you shouldn’t rely on promises and great promotional content. Don’t afraid to ask questions which could look even rude but will guarantee you future success.

pinocchio02.jpg

  1.   Ask to provide portfolio with past and present clients. Check where this clients got their backlinks and how many quality sites link them. Look in HTML code to see if you can find suspicious things like hidden content which doesn’t appear on the page or hidden keywords.
  2.   Ask if any software were used to promote other websites. Avoid SEO people who offer you to install some kind software which will boost your traffic.
  3.   Ask where SEO expert from. Sometimes it is important to know where your money are going. Don’t work with people who hide their location, most likely they will escape with your money.
  4.   Ask if SEO expert can give 100% guarantee that website will be #1 on Google for the most popular keyword. If SEO expert promise you this result… refuse to work with this person because: There are no people who can guarantee top positions on Google!
  5.   Ask how long it take to improve search engine rankings. Real SEO will tell you that it takes from several weeks to several month depending how popular niche your website in. Stay away from people who promise “boost” in traffic in less than 24 hours.
  6.   Ask if SEO expert buys links for his / her clients. Don’t work with people who use link market networks to buy or sell links. Your site could be penalized by Google for buying links (unless SEO expert buys links from very good friends he / she knows in person).
  7.   Ask how many years SEO expert in the field of search engine optimization but don’t afraid to hire novice if person know what he / she is talking about.
  8.   Ask where you can get feedbacks and recommendations. Contact past and present clients.
  9.   Ask for networking experience. Good SEO expert always participate in forums, active in social media, blog, or publish on a regular basis.
  10.   Secret: type on Google: (name) scam, (name) stole, (name) fraud etc. You might find forum / blog / network posts where other people complain about your guy services. It helped me 2 years ago to find that some guy was trying to scam me for $500. He was pretending that he can take one of my clients and give extra help.

How to bring trust after website was penalized by Google.

March 25, 2008 By: Sergey Rusak Category: Blog No Comments →

Wrong promotion of a website (spam, cloaking, hidden keywords, anchor spam etc) could bring to several forms of punishments from Google such as removal from search index, removal from top positions, or decrease of Google Pagerank.

In my practice I witnessed a lot of situations when websites was punished by Google. Moreover, my own site www.manhattanservice.comwas punished when I sold advertising banners without adding “nofollow” tags to sponsored links. Most sites recovered later after mistakes was fixed.

Is Google Evil?

1866583323_1999998364_google_good-evil.jpg

My observations show that after Google punishment it takes 2-4 month (in average) to bring back trust and results. My own website www.manhattanservice.com lost Pagerank for selling links without “nofollow” tag and it took 4 month to get Pagerank 5 back.

My friend who runs online store for kids lost all top positions on Google after he hired some company to create 10 000 backlinks. Google removed website from all top positions right after ”SEO” scammers added his link in 10 000 link farms. Google traffic dropped from 250 daily visitors to 10 visitors per month. I recommended him not to build any links and it took 3 month to bring past results back.

Music store I manage dropped from 50 000 clicks from Google per month to 9000 (January, 2007). Google removed most web pages from index and decreased positions fro all keywords. I was confused and after discussion with my client found that back in 2001 his old SEO company created dozen websites to link only his pages. We closed this sites immediately and traffic came back to normal in less than 6 weeks.

SEO blogger I met in blogosphere used to build hundreds backlinks on a daily basis using only ”website promotion” as anchor text. Google removed his site from serps for keyword spam. It took 2 month to fix situation.

As you see, Google could be an evil but they can easily forgive website owners for past mistakes. Most webmasters know what they punished for and it is better to remove all hidden tricks, suspend unlimited link building strategies, improve website, and make your resource SEO friendly.

Desiresin - good social shopping network to share shopping experience.

March 24, 2008 By: Sergey Rusak Category: Blog No Comments →

In the past I wrote about social shopping networks and benefit from submission of your broducts and services you sell. Here I would like to talk a little about new network I found recently.

Desiresin is a simple network where store owner or shopper don’t have to install toolbar for product suggestion. To submit new product you should create account and fill the form. Submission automatic and spam submission could be removed by administrator.

Visitors could rate products, leave comments, and share link with other members.

I would like to give Desiresin creators extra credit for making website SEO friendly with good url structure, page organisation, meta information, and professional internal linking.

Promotion of pages where you offer your service or product.

March 23, 2008 By: Sergey Rusak Category: Blog 2 Comments →

It would be awesome if page where you offer service with submission form and contact information appear right away on Google when people type related key phrases. It seems impossible for many webmasters because of competition.

Building deep links directly for your service pages could increase chance of appearance in top 10. Many webmasters think that it is hard and almost impossible to find places and webmasters who will agree to provide deep link.

It is enough to have 10-20 backlinks for additional page to rank well for websites which already well promoted and rank well. To increase rankings for service pages you can build links from:

  •  Signatures in related forums.
  •  Your profile on social networks. Just add your service (deep link) page as your own website.
  •  Article submission with deep link in signature and your info page.
  •  Many directories provide deep link submission for sponsored and reciprocal submissions.
  •  Deep directories for deep links. You can find deep directory list on Directory critic.
  •  Link exchange. Good way to build links. If you don’t trust reciprocal links you can use 3-way link exchange.
  •  Your own websites. Place links to your services on your own sites.
  •  Social bookmarking sites (don’t submit in social media and news sites). Submit in sites where you allowed to bookmark pages for yourself without sharing with other members.

Month ago I got a phone call from Mark Zeltser who asked for help with his website. 5 years ago Mark opened a website called EveryNotewhich sell classical music sheets for piano, violin, guitar etc. The problem is that with over 20 000 music sheets in database and more than 50 000 pages Google indexed only 18 000.

Our analysis showed that many pages on EveryNote contained similar content, some content was taken from another websites (duplicate content), many pages located more than 10 clicks away from the homepage, similar metatags, and small amount of deep links. For Google and other search engines it was hard to reach most content pages. Moreover, many pages was filtered because of duplicate content issues.

We discussed our strategy and decided to:

  • Rewrite most pages with duplicate content.
  • Increase amount of internal links.
  • Submit content pages to social sites like Digg, Mixx, Furl etc… creating more deep links.

In 2 weeks we did only some submissions in social networks, placed more internal links to other related pages, and fixed duplicate content on 10-15% of the pages which was affected. First week gave some improvements and Google indexed 20000 pages, this week Google indexed 25300 pages and it seems like amount of pages are growing.

Moreover, in past 2 weeks organic traffic from Google increased by 10.75%.

Targeting seasonal keywords…

March 11, 2008 By: Sergey Rusak Category: Blog 1 Comment →

Keywords which related to holidays, events, time seasons could be simply promoted to reach top positions on search engines and increase sales of specific product and service. For established website it is easy to reach high rankings right away and take over competitors.

  Step by step:

  1.  You should begin to think 2-3 month before event will appear and bring people attention. Search engine optimisation and indexing could take about 2 month.
  2.  Write new page for this event because search engines love to index fresh content from established websites higher than old content.
  3.  Pick the most popular keyword to name your page / post. For example: 2008 NBA Season, New England Patriots 2008 bets, or 2008 Independence Day Events.
  4.  Place targeted keywords in metatags and insite content on your page.
  5.  With new blog post or article you should start to create backlinks. The easiest way is social networks. Try to put your link in every single Digg-twin site and social bookmarking communities.
  6.  Use directories which accept deep links. Some of them you can find on DirectoryCritic
  7.  Target your main keyword but don’t forget that Google can punish for keyword spam… Make sure that 60-75% backlinks with your main anchor and the rest with similar text. It could also help you to reach top positions for all similar keywords. For example: 2008 NBA season, Beginning of 2008 NBA season, NBA season 2008, New NBA season etc.
  8.  Remember about internal linking. It is better if you link this page directly from your homepage and other popular pages.
  9.   Don’t create 100+ links over night because it could increase “red flag” for your site.

Good luck. Send me a gift if it will help you to become a millionaire during the next big thing. :)
