MarketingPilgrim: “Facebook has announced their modifications to Project Beacon. As Search Engine Land reports, the changes include opt-in instead of opt-out for listing purchases through Project Beacon partner sites. I think we can also safely assume that the opt-in notices will be more noticeable than were the previous messages.” read more…

John Battele’s: “Facebook provided two different opportunities to block the details from being shared, but many users said they never saw the “opt-out” notices before they disappeared from the screen” read more…

New Facebook advertising program just another collaborative filtering marketing strategy which have been used by many companies. Most companies are quiet about this and prefer not to share with media that they track and share shopping experience of their customers. The problem is, Facebook told everyone about their decision and it brought a lot of anger in media and anound Facebook users.

Evil Marketing: Pyramid Scheme in the Web

November 29, 2007 By: Sergey Rusak Category: Tech News No Comments →

Many of you familiar with pyramid scheme - business model which to enroll other people without selling any product or service. Before internet appeared pyromide creators was looking for new members (victims) through direct mail advertising, public meetings, advertising through media. Internet opened opportunities to reach more people and for free cutting cost on TV ads, mail campaigns, office rent for seminars etc. Now there are millions websites which offer “free money”, “make $$$ working at home”, “get rich fast”.

Here is example of scam: Crazyfox is a company which run ads on TV trying to reach as many people as possible who will bring them even more “victims” involving friends and family. They got over 300 domains which look like www.crazyfox.com , http://132crazyfox.com, http://205crazyfox.com, http://251crazyfox.com/, which help them to track advertising cost and return on investment.

One of the ads they run on tv:

Can you belive that this young lady made $5000 in one day? Typical scam.

If we take a look on their website we can find a good catch:

“The incomes depicted are not typical and represent a small percentage of actual participants. There are no guarantees that participants will be able to achieve the income levels depicted. Each individual’s success will be determined by his or her desire, dedication, effort, ability to follow directions and personal talent. The actual contents of success kit may vary than what is depicted.”

Here we go… basically it mean that they don’t respond for waisting your time, loosing money, and breaking felationships with your family.

 How pyramid scammers make money?

  •  offer you to pay small fee which is about $20-50.

  •  sell you books before you begin to “make money”.

  •  offer free hosted easy made websites to sell stuff.

  •  make people spam.

  •  offer you to invite family, friends, random people and collect money.

  •  offer to advertise products and services of other companies with promices of future earnings.

  •  send you junk mail and calling you 10 times a day offering products untill you move and change your number.
